The governors of the 36 states of the federation in the early hours of yesterday resolved to meet with the leadership of the National Assembly on the need to pass a resolution to make Vice President Goodluck Jonathan the Acting President.

The Kwara State governor and Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum NGF), Bukola Saraki, who briefed newsmen on the outcome of the meeting, however, said that the delegation of responsibility to one’s deputy could either be verbal or written in line with the provisions of the Constitution.

Bukola said: “On the state of the nation, the NGF appreciates the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in relation to the office of the President and Vice President. The Forum also identifies with the judgement of the Court and agrees that the position of acting could either be verbal or written as the Vice President has been appropriately acting admirably.

“The Forum calls on all arms of government to continue to give full and total support to the Acting President until the President returns in the interest of our dear and beloved country.

“The Forum resolves to meet with the leadership of the National Assembly with a view to making them pass a resolution to properly recognise the Vice President as the Acting President in the interest of the nation,” he added.
